This is a **1985 Blue Bird Wanderlodge PT40**, a 40-foot, all-steel, rear-engine diesel coach built during the era when Wanderlodges were engineered more like commercial buses than typical motorhomes. These coaches are known for their durability, road stability, and long service life.

If you’re looking for a lightweight RV, this isn’t it.

If you’re looking for a solid, classic, overbuilt diesel pusher with character — this is what you’ll get:

* True all-steel Blue Bird construction
* No wood-framed body flex like many modern RVs
* Built on a commercial-grade chassis that “floats” down the highway
* Increasingly sought after classic diesel pusher

With their all steel bodies, and a sleek exterior design that still turns heads, even today, heavy duty steel frames, air suspension, powerful Detroit Diesel engines, and heavy duty Alison automatic transmissions, vintage Blue Bird Wanderlodges were known for their quality craftsmanship and attention to detail. The 1985 PT40 model was no exception.

The spacious and comfortable interior still draws exclamations of surprise from all who enter it, and every aspect of this motorhome is designed to provide you with a first-class traveling experience.

Step inside, and you’ll be greeted by a beautifully appointed living space that features high-quality furnishings and finishes. The kitchen is equipped with all the amenities you need to prepare delicious meals on the go, while the cozy sleeping area with a queen bed offers a comfortable retreat at the end of a long day of exploring.

Owning a vintage Wanderlodge is owning a coach that you can make uniquely your own. The interiors were factory custom built to the original buyer’s specifications. Consequently, no two new coaches coming out of the factory were exactly the same. Over the years, most original, and subsequent, owners performed their own modifications, resulting in truly one of a kind motorhomes.

If you are a DIY type of person who is comfortable working on vehicles, plumbing systems, electrical systems, or doing carpentry work, owning a Wanderlodge lets you test your imagination and skills to your heart’s content.

Below are a few of the changes and upgrades that have been done on this unit since it was new:

1. Roof mounted roll out solar charging mat that is dedicated to the generator starter battery.

2. Electric motor lift motorcycle transport deck on the rear of the coach. The electric motor raises and lowers the deck to ground level, and can transport a full size Harley motorcycle. It is currently used to transport extra cargo.

3. For quilting and other hobby projects, a fold out, quilting/crafting table.

4. To accommodate the crafting table, a wall mounted, fold down dining bar that replaces the dining nook.

5. Upgraded, plush, pilot and co-pilot seats.

6. A custom built office area, featuring a pull out corner desk, installed on the right hand side of the salon area.

7. For animal owners, there is an open area directly behind the co-pilot chair that fits a large wire dog crate, so pets can be safely contained when in motion. No pets? Plenty of room to fit a small chair or recliner, or to build your own entertainment center.

8. The original “dog hair grabbing ‘magnetic’ carpeting” was removed and replaced with bamboo hardwood flooring.

9. Twelve volt LED lights replacing fluorescent lights throughout the interior.

Forty years after it exited the factory, this coach is ready to go to its new home, and be on the road for another forty years.
